Il fotografo di Bologna

Italian Short Novel for Pre-Intermediate Learners (A2)

Twelve night photos. One stranger's camera.

After a party at the guesthouse, Tommi goes home with the wrong camera: same model, a label that says 'C. B.' and twelve night photos of Bologna. Somebody else has his camera, with three years of work and the pictures a newspaper wants by Friday. Nobody knows the owner, only that she is 'a girl from Bologna who left early for the train'. Tommi takes the train north and uses the twelve photos as a map. A short, adult novel for pre-intermediate learners of Italian (A2).

Read chapter 1: La macchina sbagliata

Lunedì mattina Tommi aspetta Giulia al banco, con la macchina fotografica in mano. Ha gli occhi di una persona che non ha dormito.

— Guarda, — dice.

Giulia guarda. Una macchina nera. Lo stesso modello di Tommi. La stessa cinghia nera.

— È la tua macchina.

— No. Girala.

Sotto c'è una piccola etichetta bianca, scritta a mano: « C. B. »

Tommi accende lo schermo. Fa vedere le foto. Portici di notte. Due torri. Una piazza vuota. Dodici foto, tutte di Bologna.

— Nessuna foto della festa, — dice. — Nessuna foto mia. Sabato sera, alla festa, qualcuno ha scambiato le macchine. Io ho la sua. Lui ha la mia.

— O lei, — dice Giulia.

— O lei. Ma chi?

È la macchina sbagliata. E da qualche parte c'è quella giusta.
