Un caffè a Testaccio

Italian Short Novel for Beginners (A1)

A paid coffee. A postcard. A forty-year-old stamp.

Every morning at the Testaccio market, someone has already paid for Giulia's coffee and left her a postcard: Lisbon, Paris, Vienna, each signed only 'V.' and each saying 'I think of you'. At the same time an elegant old gentleman, Mr Weber, takes room 2 at Pensione Aurora. Tommi notices two things: the stamps are forty years old, and the handwriting matches a name in the guest register. A short, adult novel for complete beginners of Italian (A1).

Read chapter 1: Ogni mattina

Roma.

— Buongiorno, Giulia! Il solito?

— Sì, grazie.

Il solito è un caffè, senza zucchero. Nino mette la tazzina sul banco.
